Ideas from surrounding high schools
SOME
BASICS:
1.
Establish where the event will be held (i.e. can you house all the
events you plan on running under one roof)
2. What kinds of activities do you intend on offering
3. Cost to the students (if any)?
4. Can the student bring an additional person? If so will there
be a cost involved?
5. Free gifts to all students that attend?
6. Rental costs for facility
7. Do a survey of some graduating students to find out what they
would like to see happen at this event
8. Duration of the activity (i.e. Ignace is running their program from 10 PM & 4 AM) nt>
IDEAS:
*Autograph book that is given out to all graduates attending with
school logo on the cover
*snacks at midnight. Vegetable and fruit trays offered throughout
the evening/night
*mocktail hour (where various mocktails can be served - free or
for a nominal fee)
*D.J
to play music rather than having a dance. The kids can dance if
they so choose
*have
an area for games to be played, a quiet area where a movie can be
shown, an area where you can run a "meet and greet",
*glo bowling, impaired driving simulator car (promote no drinking
and driving)
*get large prizes from area businesses that the kids will need when
they go off to school in the fall (i.e. microwave oven, television,
etc.)
*have
prizes available for viewing at around 3 AM (if you are choosing
to run the chem-free grad all night - or as late as possible if
not).
*give prizes away at 4 AM while serving breakfast
*once kids are in they can't leave and come back again (unless they
go out with a chaperone)
*HAVE
SOME SORT OF A THEME (chosen by the kids), for example, the theme
in Ignace this year is "Tropical"
*breathalyzer at the door to check for intoxication (police participation).
VOLUNTEERS:
*2-4
hour shifts (depending how long you want the chem-free grad to last)
*possibly target grade 11 parents to keep the number of graduating
students' parents to a minimum - this may or may not work. A lot
of graduates may not want their parents there - just a thought.
*send letters to all committees in the district to see if they can
help out in any way (besides contacting businesses).
*OSAID group would be a good group to work with at the high school (Tina Venne and Madonna Ring are the co-presidents)
*in Ignace and Dryden (I believe) they have contacted a company out of Oakville Ontario to bring in some inflatable games. For example they have Sumo Wrestling, Giant Boxing (with a boxing ring), “rock” climbing, Human fosball, Pillow Bash, Sports Speed cage, etc. We are looking at bringing some of these in for the Bass Tournament but you may be interested in bringing in one of these things for the Chem-free grad. The cost to bring in 4 of these plus two operators would be about $5500.00 to $6500.00. You will also need about 6-8 volunteers who would be responsible for running/looking after the equipment while the students use it (along with the operator(s)). Let me know if you would like more info on this.
*contests held throughout the night for various things.
*contests leading up to the Chem-free grad (at the high school)
*decorator to come in to help decorate a facility according to its theme (L. Lovisa?)
*wall graffiti—talk with the people responsible for the mural on the wall of CIBC and have the kids create a mural that they can put up to add to the community. Some legacy to leave behind. This may also be used as a fundraiser.
*have a comedian or other type of show come in to entertain the kids for a portion of the evening. Contact the folks over at the Holiday Inn in the Falls to see if they could help with this.
*have the Little Theatre company come in and put on a dinner theatre or a play for the evening
